Gospel singer Deitrick Haddon makes his feature film debut in the movie, 'Blessed & Cursed,' a motion picture written by the Stellar Award-winning artist. Described as a "gripping, Biblical account of Saul and David" that is "brought to life with a modern retelling of the classic story," Haddon stars as Dwight Hawkins, a man struggling to overcome the backlash of his peers and seeking to find his life's purpose.
"You know I'm a pastor now, so I'm doing more studying than I've ever done in my life. I was studying the story of Saul and David and the dynamics within their relationship.
'Blessed & Cursed' also stars actors Sheryl Lee Ralph ('Moesha') and Drew Sidora. ('Step It Up'), as well as gospel singers Kierra Sheard, Karen Clarke Sheard, Dr Bobby Jones, J. Moss, Damita Haddon, Jorel Quinn of 21:03 and Rance Allen.
"I hope that people walk away with a sense of purpose, a sense of pride in the church," expressed Haddon. "There are so many different scenarios and relationships in the film that touches people right where they are."
Shot in the 36-year-old singer's hometown of Detroit, the movie was released on DVD on June 15.
Haddon already has a follow-up feature to 'Blessed & Cursed' in the works.
Production on his second film 'Gospel Street' began in June.
"It's going to be like what 'Krush Groove' was to hip hop," he declared, before adding: "I already have like 10 films in the works."
Here's the trailer for the movie:

Marvin Sapp Wife MaLinda Sapp Passes
The wife of gospel star Marvin Sapp has died of cancer at the age of 43. MaLinda Sapp, who was the co-pastor along with her husband of their Lighthouse Full Life Center Church at Kingdom Square in Grand Rapids, MI, was a psychologist and counsellor who often served as a college professor. She was also the founder of Travail Ministries, which focuses on empowering women to recover from hardships, maintain healthy relationships, and to maximize their potential in Christ. “Through Travail, women give birth to their purpose in God,” says the website.
The beautiful Ms. Sapp and her husband have three children. A recent appeal to the church for 24-hour a day prayer vigil said that “an infirmity they thought was resolved was trying to resurface.”
Instead, the scheduled intervention prayer became a time of grieving with the congregation.
Marvin Sapp is known as the singing preacher in some circles, thanks to his messages focusing on spiritual guidance and inspiration.
His eighth album Here I Am was released in March of this year to rave reviews.
We hope the Pastor and his children find peace in the joyous lifeworks of this special lady, and wish them comfort in this difficult time.
